Moving on to 2010…

Wow….can’t believe that 2009 will be of the past in a few more hours and it’ll be 2010. Where did the year go?!?! Well, unfortunately I did not do a great job with keeping up with my blog post, but that doesn’t mean my year uneventful. In January, I left my part-time job and was able to have my weekends and holidays to myself and spend with family and friends. During the earlier part of the year, my church did the I54 campaign focusing on Isaiah 54. The campaign focused on personal and corporate level praying and fasting for God to remove areas of barrenness and enlarge our tents (territories). From March till the end of May was a blur, but by the beginning of June, I ended my first school year as a school social worker and began my summer break! 🙂 Also in June, I took my licensure exam the day before my 28th birthday and failed. I wasn’t devastated by it this time as I had been when I took the test two years ago. I guess it was because I had done better than the first time and was 1% away from passing. I was also in the nesting mode, because I had decided earlier this year to adopt my baby—Levi, he came home on June 4, two days after my birthday. He’s a shepherd/chow mix and I am completely in love with him although he drives me up the wall about every single day. I know it sounds crazy, to say this, but the reason he drives me up the wall is because he has some personality traits that remind me so much of myself. He is giving me a glimpse of what parenting will be like for me in few years. In July, I was able to visit my one of my oldest and good friends, Joelle and her husband at their home in K.C. In August, I began my second year as a school social worker (I love this job by the way!) and picked the date of when I would take my licensure exam for the third time. I also began taking an ASL course at a local community college, so I could improve my signing skills for my students I currently work with as well as the clients I plan to work with in the future. Somewhere in the months of September and October I noticed that my dreams were starting to alter. In the past, I believed my dreams had to be fulfilled ABC, 123 in order for me to live the life that I’m supposed to live. Got to the point where I was able to embrace new dreams, thus making me excited about turning 30 years old June 2011. Until recently, I used to dread hitting the big 3-0, now I can’t wait for it to arrive. In November, I took the licensure exam for the 3rd time and finally passed! It was a great to FINALLY have that monkey off my back, so I could focus other areas of my life. During this time, I also realized that something that I had been praying for to be released from for over a year now, was done. So I was elated to be past that mental and emotional hurdle. December was a month of hustle and bustle of studying for my finals, trying to complete paperwork due before going on winter break, buying Christmas gifts, catching up with friends and family, volunteering for two days at Urbana09 and having the opportunity to meet some great people there, and taking time to relax and sleep in, without being on a set schedule. And here we are at the end of another year…

I have no idea what 2010 will bring, but I’m excited about the start of something new and fresh. I have not made any resolution for the new year again, but I did make resolutions for when I turned 28. I plan to continue working on losing weight (have lost 31 pounds in 12 months) and living a healthier lifestyle, continue to prepare myself to do private practice beginning Fall ’10, paying off some bills, and staying focused on the dreams of what God has placed on my heart for a time such as this.

This is the scripture I leave you in 2009 with: “Let us know, Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord. His going forth is established as the morning; He will come to us like the rain, Like the latter and former rain to the earth”.- Hosea 6:3 (NKJV)

See ya in 2010! 🙂
